Okay, hypothetical situation.
I used to have a friend who had this conversation with a girl on a date,
"Can I ask you a hypothetical question?"
She said, "Yes."
He went on, "Can I kiss you?"
Okay, hypothetical situation:
You have seven guys, fifteen years old. You have eight ssessions to spend with them in a class setting about scripture. What do you do? What would you want to make sure and say, what would you want to NOT say? What would you ask, what would you share, what would you tell?
Hypothetically, of course.

I would spend the first lesson talking about backgrounds...see where people are coming from in terms of interpreting scripture, their fifteen-year old hermeneutic, etc...and let that first meeting guid the rest...
I would say things about a post-liberal use of Scripture, or something high-falutin', but it's probably best saved for Cradle Roll.
Seriously, my OT prof here aasigned our first paper: "My Understanding of the Old Testament." It was interesting to see what exactly my preconceptions were, and how they had changed after the class.
I would also definitely point out that there are SIXTY-SIX books, not just the new ones, and I would try to make the whole enterprise theocentric. This may come off bad in such a forum, but I think our churches have spent too much time with Jesus (and God is his Dad), and not enough time with God, who sent his Son to announce His Kingdom. The whole "God" thing is probably the most important concept I've come to grasp in grad school...
Alright, too many thoughts, Survivor is on....
Gball
P.S.: That first hypothetical situation sounds like you were listening in on one of my dates!
GKB, thanks gor the help, but I am still kind of ticked at you for opening up a big can of worms on the "a place to..." post without tying up the loose ends. I wrote a big fat reply and what did you give me back? nothing! absolutely nothing!
Maybe Greg felt this wasn't the place for that discussion ....
Sorry to leave you hanging back there...I just caught this comment, so I'll work on a reply, and try to come up with something smart-sounding to say
I'm sorry man...I know what it's like to be left hanging.....
